RECENT NEWS FROM APRIL

UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF WELLSBORO
The people of the United Methodist Church invite you to Sunday service at 10:30, with Sunday School at 9:30. The study of II Corinthians begins on Sunday, April 12. The nursery is open from 10:00 to noon with two safe Sanctuary-trained adults on hand. On Sunday, April 5, the Easter observance started at 6:30AM with a sunrise service in the front yard by the flower- decorated cross. Breakfast was provided afterward in Epworth Hall. The church service at 10:30 was decorated with various beautiful spring flowers, donated in memory of family and friends. The Praise Team sang, “Above All” and the Senior Choir followed with “Come Out” to open the service. A favorite hymn, “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today,” was sung by all, accompanied by organist Renee Root. The Bell Choir, directed by Louise Bornamen, played “Here I Am, Lord.” Another favorite hymn, “Up From the Grave He Arose,” preceded the scripture reading by Sarah Shoffler, Luke 1:26-38 and John 19:38-20:1-18. The Senior Choir sang “In Christ Alone/The Solid Rock,” directed by Maureen Johnston. Pastor Jackson’s message, “Tombs and Cocoons- Trusting the Dark,” reminded us that all life starts in the dark, but we can trust that God will always begin His work there. Communion was served in the pews by Ed Wilson, Anna Mengel, Bob Smith, Cathy Mack and Tom Auman. It was a busy week at church. Thursday evening was the Maundy Thursday observance with a carry-in dinner and worship with Communion in Epworth Hall. On Friday at 10:00 AM, the Cross Carrying Walk for Jesus began at the Chamber Office corner and ended in the front yard of the church where it was erected and covered with flowers on Friday and Saturday. On Friday evening the solemn Good Friday service was held in the sanctuary with scripture reading, hymns and the sound of a hammer. On Saturday, several members took part in the Trunk Bunny Hop on the Green, handing out candy and bears to the children. Birthdays were celebrated this week by Todd Crumb and Joan Tease.
