RECENT NEWS FROM AUGUST
The people of the United Methodist Church invite you to Sunday service at
10:30. The nursery is open from 10:00 to noon with two Safe Sanctuary-trained
adults on hand.
On Sunday, August 9, the Praise Team opened the service leading the singing
of “Honey in the Rock.” While the Loose Change was being collected for the Tioga
County Homeless Initiative, a video was shown telling the story of the beginning
of the idea of the need for a shelter in 2011, up to the present day and the
completed construction of a brand new building. Amy Goehring shared the “Did
You Know?” moment with an explanation of the Bear Project. Over 3000 bears
have been shared with others since the project began ten years ago, so many have
found that “Jesus makes Life Bearable,” as the tag states. Seth Rogers read the
scripture, Psalm 8. Pastor Jackson’s message, “Who Are We?” began with the
whole congregation singing “O, Lord, How Majestic Is Your Name?” The question
then asked and answered was how could a God so indescribable and
uncontainable be mindful of humans as small and insignificant as us? Ushers
were Ed Wilson, Larry Snyder and Keith and Amy Goehring, with Callie Jackson’s
help. Fellowship refreshments were provided by Maureen and Mike Johnston.
On Saturday, August 8, the church hosted A.R.M., the Association of Recovering
Motorcyclists. A bountiful lunch was served and stuffed bears of all kinds were
available for the taking. Bags of chips, homemade cookies and bottled water
were also shared with the men and women who came, including some riders from
Mississippi and Georgia.
Birthdays were celebrated this week by Ardys Boostrom, Fawntay Paxson,
Brenda Bliss and Issac Bechtel. Kermit and Mary Shrawder and Jeremy and Val
Bechtel observed their anniversaries.
